Summer Activities in Big Sky
Big Sky’s scenic lift ride provides a year-round bird’s eye view of the surrounding mountains. You can bring your mountain bike along to zoom back to the village, hike on the self-guided nature trail, or make your way down playing disc golf, an 18-hole course played with a Frisbee instead of clubs and golf balls. Ride the zipline through the Moose Tracks forest, or explore the wilderness on horseback with guided tours, railside lunches available.
Big Sky Resort is surrounded by National Forest Service land with hundreds of miles of trails and service roads for mountain biking. On the Mountain at Big Sky Resort riders will find advanced and expert downhill trails as well as beginner and intermediate.
Anglers have their choice of five blue-ribbon trout streams, including Big Sky’s Gallatin River, plus other legendary rivers nearby including the Madison, Big Hole, Yellowstone and Missouri. An Orvis Shop located on the mountain offers casting clinics hosted by professional guides.
The Gallatin River is forced into a narrow canyon directly above the land near Big Sky, making her whitewater rapids some of the most challenging in the region. A more leisurely option is a scenic raft trip, the perfect way to view Bighorn sheep, bison, coyote and other wildlife.
