Summer Activities in Bozeman
Bozeman is bicycle-friendly with bike lanes and routes throughout residential and commercial areas, and there are plenty of adjacent foothills and mountains to explore. Montana mountain land offers an abundance of hiking opportunities ranging from the easy four-mile hike to Porcupine Creek, to the vigorous climb to Lava Lake.
In and around the national parks are streams, lakes and Montana’s mighty rivers filled with rainbow, brown, brook and native Cutthroat trout along with whitefish, perch and walleye. Whitewater and scenic rafting excursions are available with various local guides while several outfitters offer horseback-riding options including hourly, half-day, full-day or multi-day trips that can be combined with hunting, fishing, photography and cattle drives.
For golfers, the course at Big Sky is a striking Arnold Palmer design that is fairly short, fairly open, and harder than it looks on the card. A few of the holes wander next to the West Fork of the Gallatin River, which runs through the property. At Moonlight Basin is the private par-72 Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, slated to open this August.
